Yesterday, yours truly was out and about in Stark County and happened to run in to an old friend.
The ensuing discussion eventually turned to this blog and my devotion to making Stark County's public officials accountable to everyday Stark Countians.
My friend looked at me and said, "Do I have a story to tell you."
Then he proceeded to tell me about a situation on Applegrove going east from North Canton.
Stark County Engineer Mike Rehfus has a project going to widen Applegrove (eventually it will go the entire way to Market), the street on which my friend lives. It seems that the heavy dump trucks servicing the project were speeding pell mell down the road with their loads.
So on a Wednesday evening my friend sat down and wrote Sheriff Swanson a letter complaining about the speeding. To his amazement, he received a telephone call from the sheriff on Friday morning in response to the Wednesday letter.
Not only did the friend get response, he got action!
The sheriff was successful slowing down the speeding trucks.
If more Stark County public officials bent over backwards to do speedy, responsive public service a la Sheriff Swanson in this instance, wouldn't it be a "make my day" for all Stark Countians?
Was this in the summer? Swanson will do anything during an election year. Try this next year and see if you get action.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to respond to a single complaint is one thing. Being able to manage is a totally different animal. Your story is certainly NOT convincing in any stretch of the imagination.
ReplyDeleteThank God Dordea did not get elected. Stark County would turn into another Cuyahoga County where personal friends and family would get promoted and pay increases and others would be laid off!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me. Sheriff Swanson and his deputies do a fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteI get sick and tired of the creeps who constantly have bad things to say. What Swanson did was his job. He would have done the same thing election or not.
