HEALY/BERNABEI

In December, post-general election campaign finance reports (CFR) are due.

It will be interesting to see if Mayor William J. Healy, II's CFR bears this out, but one Canton political observer said he thought that after all is said and done, the now lame duck mayor will likely have spent some $250,000 on trying to retain office for another four years.

The follow-on was that consequently, this 2015 bitter, caustic and confrontational race between Healy and former Democrat and now independent Thomas Bernabei is certainly the most expensive ever in Canton mayoralty politics.

For Healy, the SCPR thinks that yesterday's mayoral election was the end game day for the candidate that for several years now The Report has dubbed as being the envy of the proverbial cat of 9 lives.

About 11:30 p.m. last night he found out that there would be no 10th political life in the offing.

The Bernabei margin of victory is pretty much along the lines of the minimum that the SCPR published yesterday, to wit:

Healy may try for an alternative office.  But like Frank Cicchinelli of Massillon proved yesterday, often when a politician has served for an extended period of time gets defeated, the comeback road in a tough road to hoe indeed and more often than not results in failure.

The Report will be adding to this blog as the day wears on, please check back for updates on the Massillon mayor's race, the Guardado/Werren outcome and the Alliance law director nail biter plus commentary on Alliance, Canton and Massillon and North Canton City Council contests.

BRUNCKHART, CATAZARO-PERRY & CICCHNELLI

An amusing thing transpired at the Stark Board of Elections (BOE) last night on this race.

Catazaro-Perry confidant and political mentor Johnnie A. Maier, Jr., was standing in front of the BOE customer counter last night.  To his right was Stark County Commissioner Janet Creighton and to her right was yours truly.

Unbelievably Maier says:  "Catazaro-Perry administered an ass kicking tonight."

Obviously for The Report's benefit.  For the SCPR main criticism of Mayor Kathy over her first four year term is that she can't do anything without clearing with Maier and his sidekick and Stark County Dems' political director Shane Jackson.

Apparently Maier has a new definition of ass kicking.

Let's see:

Maier's protege gets 40% out of 100% of the vote and she kicked the collective opponents' asses?

Six out 10 voting Massillon's Tuesday voters rejected her, but in Maier's mind she trounced her opponents.

Strange sort of math that Maier, Jr. practices, no?

In his defense, Maier, Jr. has never claimed to be a rocket scientist and it is probably because is he short of mathematical skills.

What he likes to in effect say "it is this way, BECAUSE I SAY SO, no further questions allowed!

I can't believe I ever (Thank God, its been ten years now) accorded this guy any credibility.

He clearly has a hard time putting 2 and 2 together to get to 4.

And yet he is a political and government leader in Stark County circles.

OMG!

ARNOLD/WHITAKER

To show how skilled the SCPR can be in predicting election outcomes, let's take a look at the Alliance law director race.  Tuesday's unofficial results:

From the SCPR yesterday before the polls closed:

Where angels fear to tred?

No more! (lol)

GUARDADO/WERREN

A case of the Stark Dems' making a really bad choice in getting behind Kristen Guardado instead of the much more compelling - in terms of qualifications and strength of political personality - Angela Alexander?

Of course, the Summit County connection will continue to haunt Alexander unless and until she establishes a legal professional base in Stark County.
