The SCPR has just received an email update from Pat DeLuca (DeLuca in the Morning - Q92) that is complimentary of Republican Stark County Auditor Alan Harold.

Doesn't surprise The Report any.  Harold may be the very best Stark County public official in terms of being attentive to and responsive to Stark Countians when they take their concerns to him.

The Report has heard nothing from jail Chief Deputy Mike McDonald.

Yours truly has followed up with an e-mail inquiry to Sheriff Swanson.

It will be interesting to see whether or not the top brass at the Stark County jail continue to "deep six" this issue or decide to do the right thing and square up, fess up candidly as why they thwarted the DeLuca/DiFranco/Q92 jail tour

There are really strange things going on with those promoting the Stark County commissioner proposed 0.5% sales tax these days.

Yesterday, the SCPR shared with readers information from tax opponent Craig T. Conley that he and tax supporter Dick Reinbold (married to Stark County Clerk of Courts Nancy Reinbold) had gotten into a big flap over the tax at Bender's Tavern last Friday.

The Report has learned that Conley and Reinbold are in the process of patching up their relationship.

Last evening the SCPR got this email:

However, the SCPR is getting to the point that nothing surprises.

Yesterday, after commissioners meeting, yours truly had a discussion with Commissioner Tom Bernabei about prospects for the levy passing.

Bernabei says it thinks it is about 50/50.

A really close question, right?

Think maybe if DeLuca and DiFranco get convinced on a tour of a jail that the conditions are dire and heading south that they might have used Friday, Monday and Tuesday to pump the levy on The DeLuca Show/Q92?

The Report did put a call into Chief Deputy Mike McDonald (the head of the jail division) to find out: what in the world in going on?

But it was after normal working hours and all there was to do was to leave a message for McDonald to call The Report tomorrow.

Back in mid-August, McDonald was begging Stark Countians to come tour the jail, to wit:

So is McDonald feeling cocky about the prospects of the levy passing?

Maybe he should be checking with Commissioner Bernabei?

On Thursday, Republican Governor John Kasich appointed one of Stark County's and Ohio's most devoted Republican officeholder Todd Snitchler (the wicked smart one - according to Kasich) to be his point man on the fracking issue.

It appears that Kasich is worried sick that the likes of Stark Countians Chris Borello (Concerned Citizens of Stark County), Louis Giavasis (Plain Township trustee) and Canton Councilwoman Mary Cirelli could upset his cozy arrangement with the oil and gas industry.  Hence the appointment of Snitchler to a position (chair of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio - PUCO) which is supposed to be looking out for the consumers and their utility rates.  And that may be how Snitchler does his work on the PUCO.  However, that is not his real job.

His real job is to be a political trouble shooter for Kasich in the field of energy production.  Right now that means discrediting and minimalizing Borello, Giavasis, Cirelli and other Ohioans who are avowed anti-fracking advocates.

Kasich has already determined that fracking is safe in the sense that it is a reasonable risk to take and he is seemingly determined to facilitate and expedite hydraulic fracking as a piece of his economic recovery pla1n for Ohio.  Snitchler is to pave the way.

Tonight Pat DeLuca of Q92 (92.5 - FM - DeLuca in the Morning) and Charlotte DiFranco are hosting a showing of the anti-fracking film Gasland at the Palace Theater in Canton beginning at 1:00 PM.

It is interesting that radio personalities Ron Ponder (Points to Ponder - his Plain Township hosted meetings of January 20/27th) and DeLuca are the prime persons moving the discussion of the safety of hydraulic fracking vis-a-vis the purity of our water supply (the main concern).   Public officials Kirk Schuring (Republican - Ohio House - 51st), Giavasis and Cirelli have been somewhat involved while most other Stark County elected officials (including all of Stark's county commissioners) are nowhere to be seen.

For tonight's event, word comes from DeLuca that the response of invited public officials has been disappointing to say the least, to wit:

Charlotte sent out a press release to over 50 elected officials.  She invited them to the screening and afforded EVERYONE (environmental groups, ODNR, even the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program a/k/a OOGEEP) the opportunity to set up table space at the Palace Theatre and talk to people afterwords.  Only a handful of officials RSVP'd.  Kasich declined outright but promised the press release would be sent to the "appropriate agencies."  Snitchler never replied.  The Ohio Department of Natural Resources declined any involvement - at 6:45 PM last Friday.

One of the most belligerent responses came "from the office of" newly elected state Representative Todd McKenney of New Franklin (Republican - New Franklin [just north of Canal Fulton, but in Summit county]).

Note that The Report says "from the office of" Todd McKenney.  More specifically, from none other than former Stark County Republican Party executive director Michael Cunnington.

Stark Countians will recall that it was Cunnington who called a meeting at Malone College in an effort to pressure Canton City Council to place an initiative on the ballot as an "apparent" non-partisan effort to modernize Canton government.

His effort was a major failure when it became obvious that Cunnington was fronting for the Stark Republican organized party in an effort to make Canton more competitive for Republicans in Canton's municipal elections.

Now he has moved on and is the legislative aide for Representative McKenney.

In a series of e-mails between Cunnington (representing McKenney's views) and DiFranco, McKenney comes across as a "smart aleck."   The Report doubts that McKenney understands how Cunnington portrayed him given his history of being a caring, evangelical Christian, to wit:

Needless to say, McKenney will not be attending.  Apparently, like Kasich and Snitchler, they already have their answers on fracking.

One more note.  It is interesting to see that Todd McKenney is connected with The Chapel in Akron. Why so?  Because Todd Snitchler is a member of a Chapel offshoot (for 15 years now, Snitchler tells The Report) "The Chapel in North Canton."  Hmm?

The SCPR applauds Ponder as well as DeLuca/DiFranco for their efforts to facilitate the public discussion, while not taking a position themselves.

Only if Kasich, Snitchler, McKenney, Borello, Giavasis and Cirelli were as opened-minded as the radio folks are, then perhaps Stark Countians and Ohioans could build a consensus?

PAT DELUCA OF "DELUCA IN THE MORNING" ASKED MAYOR HEALY POINT-BLANK WHETHER OR NOT HIS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR EARNS $70,000. HEALY'S ANSWER: "NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT." HMM?

Will Mayor William J. Healy of Canton ever get away for spinning (the SCPR being nice) or others - not being so nice:  lying?

Yesterday, Mayor Healy appeared on the "DeLuca in the Morning Show" on Q92.  DeLuca grilled Healy for over an hour on just about every aspect of the Healy administration and Canton city finances.

The Report has taken the hour long exchange and edited it down to 7minutes and 53 seconds so that readers who do not have the hour to spare to listen to the entire interview get the gist of the DeLuca grilling.

The SCPR believes that Healy (to be euphemistic) was "spinning out-of-control."  DeLuca had done his homework and asked questions that revealed those of us who know the inside story of Canton city politics and the Healy administration caught the spin in spades.

The SCPR will be on DeLuca in the Morning tomorrow, and, hopefully, Pat will ask about the "spin" that The Report picked up on.

A glaring example:

DeLuca:  "They [commenters in The Rep's comment section] mention your $70,000 or more a year communications director, is that true."

Healy:  "No, that is absolutely not true."

Go back and look at the graphic provided to the SCPR earlier this morning by the city of Canton auditor's office.  Do you think that there is any way Healy can honestly say "No, that is absolutely not true?"

If one talked with the FOP members, Canton Patrolman's Association (CPPA) members and Canton Professional Fire Fighters Association members, what  "tales of Healy spin would they have to tell" on the Healy rhetoric.

As the SCPR has been saying for months now, Mayor William J. Healy will say whatever on whatever to get him by the moment.

You can bet that he will come back to the Herman matter with a:  "Well, his base salary is $51,250.00."  Who accepts this number as the true cost of the city of Canton and the Healy administration employing Adam Herman?

For anyone who does, I own a parcel of swamp land in the Everglades of Florida that I will sell you for a bargain.

Kudos to DeLuca for the splendid job he did in putting Healy on the public record.

At the end of Healy's tale, it seems to the SCPR that Mayor Healy will have to take on the characteristics and talents of the great magician Houdini if Canton is to survive. 

And he has a good start.

In the opinion of the SCPR, Healy has a terrific chance to be a political Houdini.  He is a master of "sleight-of-hand.
