FOR STARK COUNTY COMMISSIONER JANET CREIGHTON:

ITS PARTY TIME!
SEE SCPR VIDEO OF CREIGHTON VICTORY CELEBRATION

If there was a "no doubter" in Stark County countywide elections, it was the Janet Weir Creighton (incumbent Republican Stark County commissioner) being challenged by Democrat Katherine Baylock and a write-in candidate in Tuesday's election.

All that was missing was a football to spike.

Had HOF CEO/president C. David Baker been invited, he most certainly, one would think, have lent the party throwers with the football he likes to carry around with him for Creighton to spike on being congratulated for her election victory.

It was surprising that Baker was not present for it is common knowledge that HOF officials "just looovve" the Board of Stark County Commissioners, especially, President Janet Weir Creighton.

63% of the vote for Creighton; 37% for Baylock with a smattering of "write-in votes" (57) was the result.

Nevertheless, it was somewhat astonishing that employees of the Stark County commissioners' office "broke out the champagne" err "cake" after the "official" meeting of the commissioners yesterday in a "let's dance in the endzone fashion" in celebration of Creighton's overwhelming political victory.

Take a look: (2 min, 4 sec)

Among Republicans running, Creighton did get bested by Scott Oelslager who came in at 64% in his 48th Ohio House race, BUT he was only running in about 1/3rd of the county.  To repeat, Creighton ran countywide which in The Stark County Political Report's book makes her the very best Republican vote getter in Stark County.

In a conversation with a central Stark County Republican political figure, The Report was told that Auditor Alan Harold was upset that he did not best Creighton's numbers Tuesday evening.

Harold/Creighton is a "apples to apples" comparison in that they both ran countywide.

Harold should not be so hard on himself.

Harold versus Democrat Linda Litman (a Massillon councilperson) is not quite the same "strength of political opponent" as Blaylock versus Creighton, no?

It appears that Harold himself took umbrage at having an opponent at all.

This blogger talked pre-election with Creighton about her race and each time she said she was taking nothing for granted.

And such is what smart politicians do.

The SCPR however was not buying and long ago chalked up this commissioner's race up for Creighton.

With all due respect to the political prowess of  Auditor Harold, Commissioner Janet Creighton is the premier Republican vote getter in "all" of Stark County!

Getting back to Baylock/Creighton, take a look at their respective pre-general campaign finance reports.

BAYLOCK

CREIGHTON

Give the SCPR a break!

$196 (In-Kind, mind you) Baylock (never held political office) to $7,125 Creighton and Creighton having held Stark County countywide office going back to her days as recorder circa 1983/1984  (note: a hiatus 2004 - 2007 as mayor of Canton), with all due respect to Commissioner Creighton:  "not taking anything for granted?"  Really?

As it turns out, it appears (at least from Harold's perspective) the "real" election contest on Tuesday past was between him and Creighton.

HEADLINE:  CREIGHTON SOUNDLY DEFEATS BAYLOCK IN COMMISSIONER RACE; ALSO OUT POLLS FELLOW REPUBLICAN AND AUDITOR ALAN HAROLD

On second thought, maybe "breaking out the champagne" err "cake" was a cause for celebration, no?

On third thought, maybe (being facetious) the the vote count was tainted?

Was there some type of voter fraud (still being facetious) that kept Harold from topping Creighton's numbers?

Of course, the election results are not yet "official."

Maybe just maybe counting those provisionals and post election day arrival of military absentee ballots might put Harold over the top?

Stark County 11/06/2018 voters undoubtedly are waiting "with bated breath" for the outcome to become official.

"Hope springs eternal," you know!
