When you have mayor as long as Frank Cicchinelli has been in Massillon, sooner or later an antagonist will surface.
Democrat Mayor Cicchinelli's political nemesis is Kathy Catazaro-Perry egged on (in the opinion of yours truly) by Stark County Democratic Party chair Johnnie A. Maier, Jr. Catazaro-Perry is a Ward 3 Democratic Councilwoman. She and Cicchinelli have fought over many issues over her years on council. Only when she initially ran, did Cicchinelli support her. Probably a decision he now rues the day on.
Here is a breakdown of the latest flap as reported in The Rep yesterday:The STARK COUNTY POLITICAL REPORT (The Report/SCPR) does not believe this matter will be decided until the mayoralty election of 2011.
Mayor Cicchinelli will probably retire and take the air out of the showdown with Catazaro-Perry.
But if he doesn't, the 2011 Massillon mayor's race will be a political doozy. It will be Cicchinelli and his loyalists on Council versus Catazaro-Perry, Johnnie A. Maier, Jr., Judge Eddie Elum and their political entourage.
The Report enjoys these kinds of political fights, but are they good for the city of Massillon?
