DISCUSSION: REPUBLICAN CHARLES BROWN THE FIRST TO RECOGNIZE ROY GUITIERREZ'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE STARK "BODY POLITIC?"

Truly amazing!

After all the years that Roy Guitierrez put into building up the Stark County Democratic Party; the first public official to recognize him for his contributions in the public media - other than a line or two in The Rep's report of December 29 on Roy's death - is Republican Court of Common Pleas Judge Charles Brown.

The STARK COUNTY POLITICAL REPORT (The Report) salutes Judge Brown.

In a letter to the editor of The Repository published January 5th, former Stark County Republican Party chairman Brown recognized Gutierrez appropriately in saying that "... Stark County has lost one of its great political figures ... . "

The Repository Editorial Board itself did an editorial with epitaph qualities to it, to wit: Roy Gutierrez: Champion of fairness (December 30, 2008).

While local Democrats (Sherer, Ferrero, Meeks and Maier) did comment on Roy's party contributions in The Rep's piece: Democratic Party stalwart Gutierrez dies at 77 (December 29th), The Report has seen nothing of the substance or scope of Brown's letter.

Maybe the Democratic Stark County leadership has something in the pipeline. Let's hope so.

If not, Brown's letter ought to send them scurrying.

Roy Gutierrez deserves to have a Stark Democrat who knew him well share with Stark Countians political anecdotes that amply portray the essence of "one of [Stark County's] greatest political figures."
